A Hughes Natural Area aligns with the Natural Areas Foothills Management Plan perfectly. Carving up Hughes does not.

The City’s own Foothills Management Plan - Update 2019 (updated again in January 2025) describes the importance of reducing wildlife habitat fragmentation to create vital interconnectivity between patches of habitat, for the conservation of our local foothills fauna and flora.

A designated ‘Hughes Natural Area’ aligns with the Natural Areas Foothills Management Plan perfectly, and would extend and buffer the Maxwell and Pineridge Natural Areas.

Carving up Hughes and doling out the pieces for high-impact development, permanent buildings and similar infrastructure, and a large-scale bike park would not align with the foothills management plan at all, and would be a detriment to foothills wildlife and detract the natural user experience at Maxwell and Pineridge Natural Areas.
